Chestnut

Chestnut or Castanea Sativa has been used since ancient times because of it’s edible seed. It’s a long-lived deciduous tree, some chestnuts from the Etna mountain are 2000 years old! They can reach 30/35 mts tall.

It’s nuts have very high nutritional value, rich in carbohydrates and very important food source in the North of the Peninsula (specially for humans). Chestnuts have an important ecological interest, they create shade with it’s dense foliage and cool down the suffocating summer of the Iberian Peninsula. It should be used more assiduously as an ornamental tree.
